A one-day C-CIARN symposium will take place during the Congress for Humanities and Social Sciences. Books, Reports of Interest

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) recently launched its Global Climate Change website. This new site provides a wealth of information about the Agency’s Global Climate Change Program which aims to integrate climate change into USAID’s development programs. The site includes information on policies and programs, annual reporting, publications and outreach, and country narratives. It also features information on the following sectors: clean energy technology, land use and forestry, adapting to climate variability and change, capacity building, and climate science for decision-making. Finally, the site provides links to various climate change related documents and reports, as well as links to other U.S. Government climate change efforts.

HAVANA - Cuba's worst drought in a century has left one in six Cubans without running water and will get worse, a Cuban official warned on Friday, calling on the nation to save water. The prolonged drought has hurt the Caribbean island's sugar and rice production and led to the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of head of cattle in the parched eastern provinces of Las Tunas, Camaguey and Holguin.

LISBON, March 10 (AFP) - A severe drought in Portugal has cost farmers one billion euros (1.3 billion dollars) in damages since September, a level that is set to rise further, the head of the main farmers' association said Thursday. "It is a very complicated situation. I don't remember anything like this," Luis Mira, head of the Confederation of Portuguese Farmers, told AFP.


Drought-tolerant plants logical choice in this weather

That long stretch of rainless weather reminded me that there are more dry days ahead and that we should be thinking of drought-tolerant plants. Many of these include our native species, of course well used to our capricious climate.
