Archived Update — January, 2005

Greetings from C-CIARN Agriculture,

A draft program is available. This event has two objectives. One is to use the presentations as the basis for a book on the topic. Another is to provide an opportunity for a wider audience to learn about research results from different approaches for understanding climate change impacts and adaptation for agriculture.

There is no registration fee but space is limited. Please contact Ellen Wall at ewall@uoguelph.ca if you would like to attend. The deadline for doing so is February 10, 2005.

Arlington, Va. -- The percentage of Earth's land area stricken by serious drought more than doubled from the 1970s to the early 2000s, according to a new analysis by scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colo. Widespread drying occurred over much of Europe and Asia, Canada, western and southern Africa, and eastern Australia.

Our C-CIARN Agriculture media database has items from two major agricultural newspapers: Western Producer and Ontario Farmer. There are now over 1400 articles in the database (2001 to Sept 2004). Keywords are included and it is updated regularly. Check it out
