A one-day C-CIARN symposium will take place during the Congress for Humanities and Social Sciences. This symposium is intended to raise awareness of climate change
issues and encourage social scientists to engage in climate change research that relates to impacts, adaptation, risk perception, community vulnerability and
resilience, governance, policy, and effective communication. More details available soon.
Books, Reports of Interest
CROPS and ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE by S.G. Pritchard and J.S. Amthor (Haworth Press)
- This book addresses the effects of global warming, in-creasing atmospheric CO2 and O3 concentrations, and soil salinization on crop physiology and yield. With a specific focus on major classes of crop pests.

BEYOND CLIMATE. OPTIONS FOR BROADENING CLIMATE POLICY
Editors: MTJ Kok (RIVM), HC de Coninck (ECN)
This new report shows the relevance and possibilities of mainstreaming climate in other policy areas such as poverty reduction, land-use & agriculture, security of
energy supply, trade & finance and air quality & health. It addresses how a so-called 'non-climate policy track' could be made part of national and international
efforts to mitigate climate change and adapt to climate impacts that are occurring.

Employment Opportunities
1. Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Climate Change and Sustainability being offered by the Adaptation & Impacts Research Group, Environment Canada and the Institute for
Resources Environment & Sustainability, University of British Columbia. AIRG is seeking a Post Doctoral Fellow to facilitate and contribute to ongoing efforts to
articulate linkages among climate change adaptation, mitigation and sustainable development. The PDF will work with other researchers to build a conceptual framework
that will advance the current state of knowledge and research practice in these areas. The candidate will also contribute to development of a new research program
with a view to enhancing Canada’s contribution to the work of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
The PDF will work with Dr. Stewart Cohen, Dr. John Robinson, Dr. Michael Healey, Dr. Yongyuan Yin, and other co-investigators from Environment Canada and IRES.
Candidates should send a letter describing the reasons for the interest in the post, a summary of relevant experience and their research interest. Also enclose
a current curriculum vitae, a sample of recent writing such as a published paper or a thesis chapter and the contact information for three references to:

2. Research Scientist/Associate Research Scientist Program Leader for Climate and Society Publications Series
The International Research Institute for Climate Prediction (IRI http://iri.columbia.edu/)at Columbia University
is seeking an outstanding individual with excellent analytical abilities and a research background in climate impacts and related policy arenas. The IRI mission is
to enhance society's capability to understand, anticipate and manage the impacts of seasonal climate fluctuations, to improve human welfare and the environment,
especially in developing countries. The Research Scientist (RS)/Associate Research Scientist (ARS) will be responsible for leading the development and production
of a flagship report series on climate and society. The report will help meet the needs of decision-makers and the public for peer-reviewed, policy-relevant
scientific information on the consequences of climate variability for society and options for response.
