Greetings from C-CIARN Agriculture
Welcome to our new members, including our new assistant, Jeff Turner
(Dept. of Geography, University of Guelph). We plan on sending future
updates in pdf attachments as well as email messages to overcome the
formatting inconsistencies that arise with different internet systems.
Until then-- apologies if the message below has extraneous coding and
other features making it difficult to read. Recommendations/comments on
how to improve the updates and other aspects of our services (namely the
web site) are always welcome.

Poisonous Plants Thrive in Drought, Kill Cattle and Sheep in Montana Knight Ridder Tribune

Drought and weird weather have combined to create a witch's concoction of poisonous plants on rangelands this year, killing cattle and sheep and increasing the chances
for deformed calves next winter. Reports of sheep and cattle fatalities to death camas and larkspur are filtering in to range and animal scientists.

Established in 1997, the UNH Office of Sustainability Programs (OSP) is an endowed, university-wide program that links the principles of sustainability to community
life. OSP initiatives integrate sustainability principles and practices into all facets of the land grant mission including teaching, research, operations, campus
culture and engagement and extension. OSP’s work is organized around four educational initiatives: Biodiversity, Climate, Culture and Sustainability and Food and
Society. All initiatives involve collaboration with faculty, staff and students as well as local, regional and international partners. Collaboration is build upon
the common goal of improving community life.

The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), a non-profit organization in Japan, is currently in its Third Phase (April 2004-March 2007) of Strategic
Research. It is currently seeking applicants for the position of Research Fellow or Research Associate for the Climate Policy project.
